Intro and the Incident

September 29, 2006

A few vague things about this aspiring teacher.

- I am a preservice teacher and a full-time reflecter in a four-year program at a Georgia university.

- My subject area is English/Language Arts and Incessant Repetition.

- My certification will be for grades 7-12.

- My real passion is 9-10.

- Ultimate goal and challenge: seeing if I can survive NYPS.

So out with the intro, and on with the incident. I hate to start this blog with something negative, but that’s just the moment and the mood I was caught in, I suppose. I won’t deny that I’m one of those incredibly optimistic, almost to the point of naive, early twenty-something “I’m only learning now that I can’t save the world” student teachers. In other words, a lot still surprises me.

So, the incident: a boy in my MT’s class has been telling teachers, administrators, counselors, you name it at X high school that he can’t concentrate on writing or reading or doing anything because of home problems. It’s worked. We haven’t demanded much. And, now we find out it was all a lie. I promised that I would never again underestimate the underhandedness of my students.  But, I know I will.
